Spending Time

September 1, 2017

In my own life, I have a hard time with the things that go on between my ears. So, in order to avoid crazy thinking, I avoid a lot of things like what I watch or listen to, who I choose to hang out with, and what I read. My cell-mate thinks I have him on a "PG-13" restriction with my television. The truth is I am so weak I do not want the images or conversations running around in my mind for months (or years) and coming out of my mouth at the wrong time.

I am also reminded that I should be watching out for the weaker Christians in how I act. They are watching us to see what "is alright" to do. I think the lost are also watching us to see if that "Jesus thing" really works.

Paul said in Ephesians 5:15-16 that we should "be careful how you live, not as unwise men, but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil."

I do not think we have to be convinced that the days are evil. All we have to do is look at the news for five minutes. People driving trucks into crowds, kids stabbing other kids, countries threatening other people, and the list goes on.

We can get caught up in all of that, or we can choose to live differently. We can choose to use the 168 hours that we are given every week in ways that further the Kingdom of God.

Time is a commodity that we can never do over. Once the minutes tick past you cannot call a "do over." They are like a turkey through the corn.... GONE.

How I spend my time is important. I have to be careful how I invest it....until my account is empty.

Then I have to appear before God and go over my receipts.

So I want to spend my time wisely, and spend it on things that are eternity oriented. For the most part. I still watch some television but I choose what I watch carefully.

I think I live a pretty good life. My conscience is clear and my relationship with God is alive. In fact, I do not even miss the stuff that I used to do.
